*Important News* Melbourne Airport changes
Important News that will affect your arrivals at Melbourne Airport immediately.
In an effort to improve traffic flow and the standard of pedestrian safety Melbourne Airport will no longer allow vehicles to remain unattended in Arrivals Drive (the middle lane at the arrivals terminal used by all coach operators).
This means that the coach driver will no longer be able to leave their vehicle to meet passengers within the terminal.
All passengers arriving at Melbourne Airport will be required to make their own way from the terminal to the coach parking area located in the middle lane to meet their driver and coach.
We are confident that a recent enhancement to the Murrays Coaches Buses and Limousines “waiting, in position & contact” protocols will assist arriving groups in identifying their coach and driver.
When the driver is “waiting” at the pick-up he advises our logistics operator who prompted by our National Logistics System will send an SMS text message to the nominated group contact’s mobile phone, this will happen for each independent segment. The contents of the text message will provide in context:
- A welcome message – arriving segments only.
- Your drivers name.
- A toll free number to call in the event of any concern.
- This reinforces the need to provide group contact information for each segment.
This enhancement has been welcomed by a number of clients who have given very positive feedback. We believe that this simple SMS message will offer immediate confidence to your arriving group and enhance their arrivals experience.
Of course the driver will also display on Murrays Coaches, Buses & Limousines professional name boards the relevant signage provided by you.
In the event that your passengers would like someone to meet them inside the terminal, they will need the assistance of a meet and greet guide service.
We have no further information at this time to indicate that any other airport will introduce similar rulings but will endeavour to keep you informed.
We’re open 365 days, 24 hours & 7 days a week

Tips for sourcing a safe transport operator
Choosing the right transport operator can sometimes be a daunting task. Following we have provided just some tips to help you through the selection process. By using these tips, you will have taken the steps necessary to assure your guests a safe, comfortable, and satisfying travel experience.
How long has the company been operating?
Ask when the company was established and how long it has been offering coach hire & charter. Generally, a long track record is more desirable and indicates that the company understands the rules & regulations of the coach & bus industry. These differ from state to state.
Does the company operate it’s own maintenance facility?
A company may say they have new vehicles and don’t need maintenance facilities. Ask about their provisions for routine maintenance & safety services.
Ask for a copy of the operators Certificate of Insurance?
The company should be willing to supply you with a copy of their Public Liability Insurance. The certificate will show the cover of insurance as well as the effective policy dates.
Does the company operate within the law?
Ensure that the company’s vehicles are properly licensed and registered with commercial license plates.
How many vehicles do they have in the fleet?
The overall fleet size is important as this gauges the operators ability to a) supply an alternate vehicle in case of a mechanical problem, b) appropriately roster and manage a multi-coach movement for a large event, c) supply coaches for a last minute booking.
Does the company adhere to National Fatigue Management requirements?
There are regulations that limit the number of hours a driver can work, these vary from state to state. Nationally a driver is limited to 12 hours of actual driving time in any 24 hour period. Ensure that the company you work with has a clear understanding of your travel requirements and that they provide appropriate guidance to ensure safe traveling conditions for your guests.
Does the company have a formal Drug & Alcohol Testing Program?
There are many factors that contribute to making an operator safe. Does the company have a drug & alcohol policy & do they conduct a testing program in the workplace.
Ask the company for any references?
Ask the operator if they can forward any references from a similar group or programs
When you are booking transport for your next event remember to use some of the tips mentioned above as safety is the single most important issue!
